The department provides the policy framework for schools to build safe and supportive school environments, including:
The Code outlines a consistent standard of behaviour expected for all state school communities in Queensland, inclusive of students, staff and parents. Schools provide explicit teaching to facilitate responsible student behaviour in accordance with The Code.
To uphold the Code, all state schools operate under the Education Queensland policy Safe, Supportive and Disciplined School Environment , which outlines Education Queensland's procedures to support the commitment to safe and supportive environments for all students. The policy includes the provision for use of school disciplinary absences within the range of management options.
In response to the Code, schools develop and implement their individual Responsible Behaviour Plan. These plans foster the development and enhancement of a safe and supportive school environment.
It is within these plans that schools respond to the diverse and unique needs within their own school context. Schools utilise a range of strategies and tools to develop their Responsible Behaviour Plans.
There are a number of tools schools may use to develop their Responsible Behaviour Plans and build a safe and supportive school environment.
