The issue of youth violence can be addressed within the current Health and Physical Education Years 1-10 Syllabus (QSA) through the strands of Enhancing Personal Development and Promoting the Health of Individuals and Communities. It can also be dealt with through the QCARF Essential Learnings.
Within the Promoting the Health of Individuals and Communities strand, students have opportunities to develop knowledge and skills in relation to responding to situations and behaviours that are unsafe, harmful or risky.
The Enhancing Personal Development strand acknowledges that personal identity, relationships and growth and development are key aspects of an individual's development. An opportunity for teachers and students to engage with four of the key dimensions relating to personal development can be realised within this strand.
The four dimensions are as follows:
