Asbestos Management - (4 hour presentation)

Welcome to the asbestos management information page.

A 4 hour face to face training presentation has been developed with the aim of providing an understanding of the roles, responsibilities and processes in relation to asbestos management in DET facilities. Three main components of the training include:

The Asbestos Management Policy FCM-PR-003,
The Asbestos Management Plan
The electronic Built Environment Materials Information Register (BEMIR), including actual system use in both the live and sandpit environment to create and close Work Area Access Permits (WAAPs), Incident Management Reporting (IMR), accessing asbestos registers, quick reference guides and action plan checklists.

Initial training was delivered to staff who have asbestos management responsibilities during the period September to December 2010. From 2011, training will be provided by Regional and Institutes Facilities teams on a regular basis as required through induction programs and regional/institute forums held for staff who become responsible for the management of asbestos containing materials in DET Facilities. The target audience for asbestos management training includes all staff that are responsible for the management of asbestos containing materials in DET Facilities. These may include;

School Principals (Building Manager)
Institute Directors (Building Manager)
Deputy Principals (Nominated Officer)
Business Services Managers (Nominated Officer)
Workplace Health and Safety Officers where applicable, and
Other officers (Administrative Assistants, School Officers)
TAFE Facilities Managers (Nominated Officers).

The person facilitating training will need to select the correct asbestos management induction and training package relevant to their target audience. Please select from the packages below;

Education - Asbestos Management Presentation - This presentation is for delivery by Regional Facilities teams to school or workplace staff who become responsible for the management of asbestos containing materials in DET Facilities
TAFE - Asbestos Management Presentation - This presentation is for delivery by Institutes Facilities teams to TAFE staff who become responsible for the management of asbestos containing materials in DET Facilities
Project coordination - Asbestos Management Presentation - This presentation is for delivery by Regional or Central Facilities teams to staff in their workplaces who become responsible for the management of asbestos containing materials in DET Facilities as part of their project coordination role
