In May 2005, the Queensland Government committed $120 million to replace asbestos cement roof sheeting in all state schools and this was completed on 1 October 2007 (almost eight years ahead of schedule).
Those roofs identified as part of the Queensland Government's Asbestos Roof Replacement Program have been removed. A total of 919 roofs were replaced at a cost of $95.9m.
The program was completed under-budget in late 2007, with an outstanding safety record, no environmental incidents and little disruption to school activities.

Department of Public Works advise that the asbestos roofs listed below were replaced between June 2005 and 1 October 2007 as part of the Asbestos Roof Replacement Program that was announced in May 2005.

Between July 1998 and June 2005, the Beattie Government replaced 204 asbestos roofs at 147 schools.
In May 2005, the Government announced the $120 million Asbestos Roof Replacement Program (ARRP) with a view to fast-tracking the replacement of asbestos roofs.
