Asbestos management in schools >

Air monitoring and dust testing

If an asbestos building product in a school is disturbed, students and teachers are removed from the area and cannot reoccupy that area until a clearance is given by a competent person.

Testing is conducted as a matter of course when there has been a disturbance of confirmed or presumed asbestos containing material.

If the test confirms the presence of asbestos, thorough professional cleaning and air monitoring is conducted to ensure the area is safe for reoccupation.

Each month a list will be available detailing schools that have been tested for asbestos dust as confirmed by Department of Public Works.
