Asbestos-containing building materials were used extensively throughout Queensland between the late 1940s and the 1980s. These materials were used in floors, walls, roofs and many other building applications for houses, schools and other types of buildings both government and non-government.
Asbestos-containing materials that are in a sound condition do not pose a health risk unless disturbed.

If you have any concerns about asbestos in department-owned facilities or require any further information, please contact the facility school principal or ECEC centre director.
Parents and Citizens' (P and C) Associations play a vital role in school activities and are required to participate in the department's Asbestos Awareness - annual presentation at locations where the environmental status indicates that ACM is assumed or confirmed. The presentation, facilitated by the school principal, assists P and C members to understand their roles and responsibilities in workplaces where there is assumed and/or confirmed ACM.
P and C Associations are required to adhere to departmental policies and procedures for the management of ACM; including the receipt of an authorised Work Area Access Permit (WAAP) to undertake any maintenance, installation, refurbishment and construction related works of any description.
