On November 2011, the Department of Education, Training and Employment (DETE) released the 'Working on Department of Education, Training and Employment (DETE) Facilities' document.
The department has always had a stringent reputation for being transparent in managing any work undertaken on DETE facilities, particularly in relation to asbestos management and this will only become stronger.
This document will be used alongside all contracts, terms of reference and purchase order documents to ensure contractors fulfill their obligations regarding all work performed on DET facilities, including work involving asbestos containing materials (ACM).
The aim of the document was to clearly identify the responsibilities and obligations of contractors who undertaken any work on DETE facilities. This ensures full accountability on the part of the contractor, for work completed and any issues which may arise.
This document was created following John Gaskin's audit of the DET's policies and procedures as it was identified that the management of contractors and others employed to carry out work, required improvement.
