Put your school in the spotlight with a visit from the Nine News Team.
The Nine News School Visits (formerly known as the Channel Nine Drop Zone and School Spotlights) are an exciting opportunity for south-east Queensland state schools to learn about television production and promote the great things happening in their schools.
The program is open to all state primary and special schools within a 40-minute drive of central Brisbane.
Nine News presenters Bruce Paige or Heather Foord will visit one school per week accompanied by members from The Shak TV show and possibly a player from either the Brisbane Broncos rugby league or Queensland Bulls cricket teams. The visits will take place on Wednesday mornings (with the exception of school holidays and the first week of term). The Channel Nine crew will arrive at the school between 9.45 and 10.00 am. The Channel Nine helicopter will land at the school if visits can be safely accommodated. If the helicopter can not land safely the team will drive instead. Upon applying for a visit the decision will be made as to whether the school is suitable for a helicopter landing.
The aim of the visits is to highlight exciting projects, activities and events that the school is undertaking. The team are looking for a wide range of stories/projects to feature, so the more exciting and unusual the better. The visit will then form a one and a half minute short feature story to be shown on the news bulletin that evening.
Please note that projects, events and activities must feature exciting visual elements that can be demonstrated during the visit in order to shoot an exciting story.
Visits are expected to take up to two hours to allow for the filming and preparation of the story.
As part of the visits, a "Behind the Scenes" DVD about television production will be shown and all members of the team will talk about their background and career development.
