Creative Generation - State Schools Onstage celebrated 11 years in 2015 and continued to be Queensland's largest youth performing arts event.
Since 2005, the professionally-produced arena spectacular has grown from 550 to more than 1500 student performers, and is nationally renowned for its outstanding and vibrant display of state school talent.
A 600-voice choir, 65-piece symphony orchestra, The James Morrison Creative Generation Big Band, more than 500 dancers and 35 featured vocalists ranging from kindergarten age and Prep to Year 12 came together for four performances.
It was an opportunity of a lifetime for Queensland's state school students to learn from and perform with Australia's most creative artists, including world-renowned jazz artist and Artistic Director of the Queensland Music Festival, James Morrison AM and to be instructed by and rehearse with internationally acclaimed dancer, 2014 Queensland Australian of the Year and Artistic Director, Queensland Ballet, Li Cunxin.
Throughout its 11 years Creative Generation - State Schools Onstage has provided opportunities for all students involved. The deaf signing choir has been inspiring audiences since their first performance in 2005 and remote and Indigenous students from culturally diverse backgrounds have delighted audiences year after year.
The event has been held at the Great Hall, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre since 2010 continuing to capture the hearts and imaginations of Queensland school students, teachers and audience members. As well, the show has been made available to an extensive national audience thanks to the annual Network Ten broadcast of the show.
The show is led by the Department of Education and Training's Community Engagement and Partnerships branch that is the engine room of the production. However it is the teachers and school communities who are the heart and soul of the show. Creative Generation - State Schools Onstage is a testament to the wonderful performers and their dedicated teachers from Queensland state schools.
The confidence, self-esteem and knowledge gained by the students involved with Creative Generation - State Schools Onstage helps to prepare them for life beyond the school gate.
Whether they seek a future in the Arts or not, the experience gained and their exposure to industry leaders will stay with them forever. They are our future artists, arts supporters and audience.
The 2015 show was bigger and better than ever and was a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.
