State Education Week

Opening their doors to the community, state schools across Queensland celebrated State Education Week 2009 from Monday 1 June to Saturday 6 June.

Celebrating 150 years of educationin conjunction with the state's 150th anniversary celebrations, schools participated in the week-long celebrations through a range of events and activities — from morning teas and open days, through to school parades and film festivals.

Held annually as an opportunity for Queenslanders to recognise the talent and achievements of students and teachers in state schools, this year 's celebrations provided an opportunity for schools to celebrate their achievements, thank their volunteers and showcase the wonderful work of their teachers and students.

Schools were also encouraged to get involved in State Education Week 2009 by participating in a range of exciting state-wide programs such as My Favourite Teacher, Principal for a Day and Back to School.

34 Queensland teachers were named My Favourite Teacher by their students, following over 2900 votes for 590 teachers from 250 schools throughout Queensland.

Over 100 community and business leaders spent the day in the shoes of a state school Principal as part of Principal for a Day and 82 Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools regional winners were announced at ceremonies across Queensland during the week.

Ending the week in spectacular fashion, over 2000 state school students took to the stage at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Queensland 's largest variety show as part of Creative Generation - State Schools Onstage.

Dates for State Education Week 2010 will be available in early 2010.
