State Education Week 2017

In 2017, State Education Week (SEW) will be held from Sunday 22 October until Saturday 28 October.

The annual week-long celebration is an opportunity to recognise the talent and achievements of students and teachers in state schools, and showcase their wonderful work to the wider community.

There are lots of great ideas for celebrating World Teachers Day and it will be held on Friday 27 October.

New program in 2017

Community Principal is a new program in 2017 to celebrate and showcase our exceptional schools as part of State Education Week that runs 22-28 October.

Schools can invite a local business or community leader to job-shadow the principal, strengthening school-community partnerships and demonstrating the exciting and innovative programs each school delivers. The invitation can be for an hour or two, or for the whole day.

Community Principal also gives the participants an insight and appreciation into what is involved in running a school, and allows students and staff the chance to interact with role models and gain insight into the world beyond school.

Community Principals should be positive role-models within the local community, and not necessarily people with a high profile.

Schools can choose to invite their own Community Principal, or request assistance from the Community Principal team in DET to help find a suitable match.

An information kit for schools and online registrations will be available in July 2017. In the interim please contact the Community Principal Coordinator for more information.
