The 2008 National Literacy and Numeracy Week Partnerships in Learning State Conference will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday 5 September 2008.
The program will reflect cutting edge research and practice in literacy and numeracy education within the context of state and national directions.
While full details on the program are yet to be finalised, the format will include a keynote speaker and workshops presented by literacy and numeracy educators within schools and across the wider education sector. The workshop/seminar sessions will be conducted on a diverse range of topics that would appeal to teachers and school leaders across all the phases of learning with both literacy and numeracy electives.
As part of the registration for the State conference, participants will be able to attend the 2008 Brisbane Education Show which showcases products, resources and services for schools and the teaching profession.
Registrations for this conference will open on 30 June 2008.

Three grants of $10 000 will be available for regions/dioceses/ISQ to plan and deliver conferences around the theme Partnerships in Learning in literacy and numeracy learning that align to Queensland curriculum initiatives and directions.
The target audience for these conferences will be teachers, school leaders and wider community from all sectors. Collaboration across the three sectors will be encouraged.
Nine grants of $3 000 will be made available to clusters of three or more schools for professional development opportunities, either for teachers, school leaders or the community, around literacy and numeracy.
These workshops/conferences should highlight effective and innovative literacy and numeracy classroom or school strategies and practices.
24 grants of $500 will be made to individual schools planning celebration activities during National Literacy and Numeracy Week 2008 that involve the community and local media exposure are eligible to apply for a school grant.
Each school must nominate a local literacy and/or numeracy Community Ambassador who values the importance of literacy and numeracy and is prepared to take on an 'ambassador' role for literacy and numeracy during the week.
Successful schools will be known as Celebration Schools and are supplied with a grant and promotional materials to assist in staging their celebrations.
