Criteria

The Public Service Medal recognises employees who have consistently performed demanding jobs to the highest of standards and have made a significant contribution to the Australian community.

The Public Services Medal is part of the official Australian system of honours and awards, and was established to recognise employees of the Australian Government and of state, territory and local governments who have given outstanding service.

The sole criterion for the award of the Public Service Medal (PSM) is outstanding public service.

'Outstanding service' may be shown through:

Long service should not be used as a basis for making nominations. Employees who have retired from the Department are eligible for nomination.
