Fanfare

Fanfare Festival

Fanfare is the biennial state-wide festival of bands and orchestras from Queensland state schools. It showcases the exciting music making that is occurring in Primary and Secondary school ensembles throughout the state.

Since it's inception in 1985 Fanfare has fostered the development of thousands of young Queensland musicians and highlighted the achievements of the music teachers of school-based ensembles participating in Education Queensland 's Instrumental Music Program.

Fanfare provides an opportunity for the school community to celebrate their young musicians and instrumental teachers by encouraging and promoting musical excellence though performance.

Every two years school ensembles have the opportunity to nominate to perform at their regional Fanfare Festival. This performance is given a professional adjudication providing positive and constructive comments to the students and the conductor. A regional finalist is selected from the ensembles. In total there are 11 regional finalists.

11 regional finalists are invited to play in the State Finals which are held in Brisbane. This performance is given a professional adjudication and from the 11 regional finalists, 5 State finalists are selected to play in the Grand Final Concert.

The Grand Final Concert in the Concert Hall at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre provides a unique and prestigious platform that places a focus on the high quality of school-based ensembles in Queensland State Schools.

The ensemble judged as giving the most outstanding performance at the Fanfare Grand Final Concert is awarded the prestigious Erica Brindley Memorial Trophy.
