For an ensemble to be eligible for a Fanfare regional award they must must comply with the following guidelines:
The ensemble types listed provide a guide to the instrumental make up of the groups.
An ensemble is required to be made up of:
There should be no rotation of players.
Students can play in more than one ensemble of the same type, only if they play a different instrument in each.
Primary, P-10 and P-12 school ensembles are required to perform for 5-15 minutes.
Secondary schools ensembles are required to perform for 10-20 minutes.
The above playing times are to be strictly adhered to. The timing of an ensemble's performance will commence from the beginning of their first item and conclude at the end of the last item. Breaks between pieces are included in the performance time.
If conductors choose to have no applause between items they are required to advise the compere and audience of this before the performance commences.
For adjudicated performances there is no restriction on who can conduct the ensemble.
In all ensemble types keyboard may be used as accompaniment or as part of the required instrumentation. In secondary, P-10 and P-12 ensembles the keyboard player must be a student of the performing school.
No two ensembles from the same school are permitted to perform exactly the same program. More than 80 percent of the repertoire - for example, at least 16 minutes of a 20 minute program - must be different.
