Minister for Education and Training

Geoff Wilson was elected to State Parliament as the Member for Ferny Grove in June 1998. He was appointed the Minister for Education and Training in March 2009.

Previously, Mr Wilson was the Minister for Mines and Energy, appointed in September 2006. He has also served as chair of the Parliamentary Crime and Misconduct Committee and a member of the Select Committee on the Consequences of Changing Political Status.

Mr Wilson has chaired various Parliamentary Estimates Committees and has worked on a number of Ministerial Backbench Committees covering portfolios such as, Employment, Training and Industrial Relations, Attorney-General and Justice, Transport and Main Roads, Natural Resources and Mines, and Energy.

Mr Wilson has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Bachelor of Laws from the Australian National University in Canberra.

Prior to his election to Parliament, Mr Wilson worked as a public servant in Canberra, and as a solicitor in Sydney, before being accepted to the bar as a Barrister of the Supreme Court of NSW and ACT and the Federal and High Court. He subsequently worked as a union official in the construction industry, and moved to Queensland where he continued his union work.

Mr Wilson lives at Mitchelton with his wife Jan and their children.
