The Department of Education and the Arts is responsible for providing education services in the state school system and for overseeing the Government's education portfolio responsibilities for non-state schools, higher education institutions and certain statutory authorities.
The Department has the following purpose, vision, key challenges and values:
To provide a safe, tolerant and disciplined environment within which young people can prepare to be active and reflective citizens with a disposition to lifelong learning. To nurture students who are able to participate in and shape community, economic and political life and the nation, and engage confidently with people from a range of cultures, both at home and abroad.
