Listed below are education programs and initatives provided for school-aged children and young people by those arts organisations supported by the Department of Education, Training and the Arts.
Cinesparks ![]()
Cine Sparks provides young people with greater access to quality cinema and opportunities to develop their media and visual literacy. Since its inception in 2005, more than 16,000 people have enjoyed this festival of film. Cine Sparks transforms the cinema experience into something interactive and engaging, connecting young minds and educators through the power of the moving image.
Teachers are able to access educational materials designed to encourage literacy, critical reasoning, and creative expression, and to extend the cinema experience into the classroom.
Creative Generation Excellence Awards in the Arts
The Creative Generation Excellence Awards in the Arts program recognises and celebrates talented students in the senior years of schooling by rewarding them with the opportunity to attend workshops in Brisbane with highly respected artists in a program specific to their art form.
Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art and Design
Previously known as the Education Minister's Awards for Excellence in Art, this program has been conducted annually since 1990 and has helped raise community awareness about the degree of sophistication in concepts, diversity of technical competence, and the high standard of arts education in Queensland secondary schools.
Queensland Dance School of Excellence (QDSE)
The Queensland Dance School of Excellence is a school dedicated to providing an opportunity for talented dancers to continue their dance training in their secondary school years. The school operates under the direction of The Queensland Ballet and Education Queensland through Kelvin Grove State College.
It is the purpose of The Queensland Dance School of Excellence (QDSE) to develop highly skilled, responsible dancers for tertiary entrance and beyond.
Students who have successfully completed year ten at school and have had previous ballet training are auditioned annually. A restricted number of twenty five positions are offered to suitable candidates. Students attend Kelvin Grove State College and study a professional training course at the Queensland Ballet site.
The Queensland Academy for Creative Industries
The creative industries involve activities which have their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent and which also have the potential for creating wealth and jobs. Students wishing to enter the Creative Industries Academy will generally profile as students with a passion and high ability in visual art, drama, media/ film, music or combinations of these and who are achieving highly in a broad academic sense. Academy students may utilise their creative and entrepreneurial capabilities to translate into broader areas such as IT, business, law, public relations, management, consultancy, education and communications.
