Health and physical education

What is health and physical education?

Health and physical education (HPE) promotes the value of physical activity in students' lives. It gives students opportunities to learn about and practice ways of working with others and adopt and maintain a healthy, productive and active life.

HPE also involves students learning through challenging and enjoyable movement experiences, and improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence in a variety of contexts.

Subjects offered in schools within the HPE learning area include home economics, health education, hospitality studies, early childhood and recreation.

Australian Curriculum for HPE

The Australian Curriculum will replace the Queensland curriculum as it becomes available.

HPE will be part of Phase 3 of the Australian Curriculum.
