Immersion Programs

LOTE Immersion Programs provide students with the deepest possible exposure to a second language and culture.

Kenmore SHS - German

Mansfield SHS - French

Park Ridge SHS - Indonesian

South Coast Region:

Benowa SHS - French

Varsity College* - Chinese

Sunshine Coast Region:

North Lakes College - Italian

Fitzroy - Central West Region:

Crescent Lagoon SS** - Primary Japanese

*An Extended Immersion Program in Chinese has commenced at Varsity College. Students opting for the Chinese Immersion Program in Years 8-10 learn Chinese intensively for one hour per day in Years 6 and 7, in order to gain a strong foundation in the specificities of spoken and written Chinese.

**This Primary Immersion program delivers around 50% of the students' Primary curriculum in Japanese.

Criteria for New and Extended Programs

Districts or schools that may be interested in beginning an Immersion Program in Years 8-10 or an extended program in Years 6-10 need to consider the Criteria for New and Extended Programs identified in a 2006 evaluation of Language Immersion Programs.
