All state schools are required to deliver language studies to their Year 6, 7 and 8 students from January 2012.

The school principal, in collaboration with the school community and in response to student needs, will determine the languages taught in Years 6, 7 and 8

Exemptions from mandatory language studies
52k may only be granted in exceptional circumstances where it is in an individual student's best interest to undertake an alternative learning program. Principals, in consultation with parents and teachers, will approve applications for exemption
90k and keep a record of student exemptions.
