Primary Connections links the teaching of science and literacy in Australian schools. The program is a partnership between the Australian Academy of Science and the Commonwealth Department of Education, Science and Training, and aims at improving student learning outcomes in both science and literacy.
Primary Connections supports science teaching across Years 1 to 7 and comprises curriculum units integrated with a sophisticated professional learning program, designed to increase teacher confidence and competence in the teaching of science and the literacies of science. Each unit contains an overview; outcomes; step-by-step lessons; equipment required; links to additional resources; assessment tasks; background information; resource sheets; and more.
Through Primary Connections, student outcomes in science and literacy can be demonstrated simultaneously. By linking science to literacy, Primary Connections enables teachers to use time and resources more efficiently.
