Educating for a Sustainable Future - A National Environmental Education Statement for Australian Schools
provides a nationally agreed description of the nature and purpose of environmental education for sustainability through all years of schooling, including a vision and a framework for its implementation.
It is intended for teachers, schools and their communities, education systems and developers of curriculum materials. It is consistent with existing State and Territory polices and programs.
Queensland hosted Earth Dialogues in July 2006 where the Queensland Student Blueprint for Environmental Sustainability (new window) 321k
developed by students from more than 70 Queensland schools was presented to delegates.

The Department of Education and the Arts supports a network of twenty five outdoor and environmental education centres. Their role is to promote, develop provide and deliver highly effective outdoor and environmental education programs for schools and the community, and provide professional development for teachers.
The Queensland Environmentally Sustainable Schools Initiative (QESSI) aims to implement improvements in a school's management of resources generically grouped around energy, waste, water and biodiversity and integrates this approach into the existing curriculum and daily running of the school. The incorporation and involvement of the school's local community is a critical element of the program.
