This policy is an overarching document to guide school curriculum provision. It sets out clear system-level requirements, expectations and principles of teaching and learning.

The P-12 Curriculum Framework challenges schools to generate excellence and equity in student learning outcomes and acknowledges the teacher's critical role in delivering the best possible learning outcomes for every student.

To support schools in this endeavour, a comprehensive set of guidelines, for teachers and administrators, is available on this site.

Curriculum planning guidelines

This set of guidelines addresses:

Pedagogy guidelines

Teachers make a greater positive difference to student achievement by placing emphasis on understanding and on higher order thinking. These guidelines provide advice on teaching so that all students learn, develop in-depth understanding, build knowledge, and learn how to improve their own learning.

Assessment guidelines

These guidelines offer advice on developing and implementing high quality assessment and moderating teacher judgments.

Reporting guidelines

These guidelines offer advice on reporting as part of curriculum and, in particular, how schools can implement the reporting requirements specified in the P-12 Curriculum Framework Policy Statement. Exemplar reports are provided.

Leadership guidelines

These guidelines offer advice on the role of leadership in building a professional community within the school.

Guidelines for students with disabilities

These guidelines assist teachers and school administrators to translate the P - 12 Curriculum Framework into practice for students with disabilities. An outline of requirements for "Individual Student Plans" is provided.

Curriculum Guidelines for English as a Second Language (ESL) learners

These guidelines support teachers and school leaders to implement the P-12 Curriculum Framework for ESL learners.
