The Commonwealth History Project's funding came to an end in December 2006. This site will remain live until December 2008 as it has many examples of good practice and resources that Queensland teachers will be able to use.
The Commonwealth History Project was a cross-sectoral Australian Government funded history education project. It was supported by the Australian Government through the Quality Outcomes Programme, administered by the Department of Education, Science and Training. It links across the curriculum including: SOSE, English and Technology as well as to other Australian Government initiatives such as the Studies of Asia, the Studies of Australia, Discovering Democracy and the Values Education Project.
The Commonwealth History Project (formerly known as the National History Project) commenced in 2000 and was funded until December 2006. In June 2003 materials, in the form of Units of Work, were provided free of charge to all schools throughout Australia. A very comprehensive website to support teachers in their teaching of History was set up by the National Centre for History Education
. Downloadable copies of the Units of Work
as well as a History Teachers' Guide
, the first that has been written since 1976, can be found here.
A Coordinating Committee was formed to oversee the project in Queensland. The Committee consisted of:
