Inquiry 3: Examining existing sector data

Available sector data will be accessed, prepared for analysis and examined for identifiable indicators of impact and cost-effectiveness of interventions. This will be considered in conjunction with intervention histories for students and any additional test data that is available, such as clinical test data available from schools.

Inquiry 3 also focuses on follow-up longitudinal test data, with a five-year trajectory 2000-2006. Data will include information about individual students identified in the Year 2 Diagnostic Net as needing extra support, using a random sample of schools drawn from all three sectors if possible. Data will be drawn from an electronic database of test results that exists in EQ and may also be available in the other sectors, though possibly at school level.

The test information from a random sample of schools for which data is available will be used as shown below to follow a cohort:

Year Assessments

Year 2: Diagnostic Net in 2000
Year 3: Literacy and numeracy tests in 2001
Year 5: Literacy and numeracy tests in 2003
Year 7: Literacy and numeracy tests in 2005 (implemented in Sept).

The Australian Government is funding the research under the States Grants (Primary and Secondary Education Assistance) Act 2000.
