Professional Development in the Teaching of Reading
Professional Development in the Teaching of Reading is to be developed and produced by the Literate Futures Project team and delivered to schools in Term 1, 2003.
This professional development package will consist of a CD-ROM containing core content that has been developed within the following framework:
- concepts and theories
- transfer of knowledge and understanding
- models and strategies (What does that look like? What might that look like?)
The content will be designed, developed and organised on the disc to allow schools maximum flexibility in the delivery of professional development sessions on the teaching of reading to staff. The nature, focus and structure of professional development sessions should be informed by the literacy audits undertaken as part of whole-school literacy planning.
A range of media files including video, audio, stills, graphics, animation and PDFs, will support the core content.
It is proposed to produce a P-7 and 7-12 version of the CD-ROM. Core content will be identical on both discs, but the support materials and teaching strategies will specifically support the teaching of reading at either primary or secondary year levels.
