Planned for release in Term 3, 2002, Literate Futures: Reading: is an essential component of the learning and development model. It gives an introduction to recent developments in literacy and reading, and helps staff and schools identify areas in which further professional development may be required.
Literate Futures: Reading will:
Having engaged with the document, staff in each school should be able to identify and plan for future learning and development in reading. Using the Literate Futures: Reading, Learning and Development model staff can identify the desired content, modes of engagement and resources (human, physical and time) for learning and development. When these items have been identified, a school plan for learning and development in reading can be developed and enacted. The scenarios in the model may provide assistance with this stage.
Literate Futures: Reading also aims to assist teachers as they develop their whole-school literacy strategy. It should be particularly helpful in developing a shared vision about reading and literacy, reinforcing the need to investigate the school community, to develop community partnerships, and to consider pedagogical issues.
