What are the requirements for recruitment as a LOTE teacher by Education Queensland?
To be recruited as a permanent LOTE Teaching Specialist by Education Queensland, applicants must:
- hold a teaching degree qualification from a recognised tertiary institution;
- be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers; (New registrations undergo a criminal history check.)
- obtain a general teacher suitability rating;
- undertake a language proficiency assessment and obtain at least an 'adequate' proficiency rating in their LOTE, regardless of the year levels they will be teaching;
- understand that the teacher transfer policy can ask staff to teach anywhere within the State of Queensland.

How do I organize a proficiency test?

How do I find out more about LOTE programs in schools?

How do I link up with a LOTE teacher network?
Professional networks therefore play an important role in supporting, informing and resourcing all LOTE teachers. The three major networks are:
- The LOTE Network - an online community supporting learning and development and innovation in LOTE.
- Queensland LOTE Centre - which sustains LOTE curriculum networks and works with other language providers.
- Modern Language Teachers' Association of Queensland (MLTAQ) - which facilitates communication and cooperation between teachers of LOTE.
