National Values Education Project

The National Values Education Project was an Australian Government funded initiative, overseen by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) between 2004 and 2009 as part of the Values Education Program.

Funding was provided to support schools in holding school community values education forums and delivering professional learning for teachers. Curriculum resources were also delivered to every Australian school. These resources can be accessed on the Values Education website.

Values education project in Queensland

In January 2005 Queensland received funding to support schools in the planning for and holding of values education school forums. This was a joint initiative of Education Queensland, the Catholic Education Commission and the Association of Independent Schools of Queensland Inc. and ran until June 2008.

The forums offered schools an opportunity to consider values education in relation to their own policies and practices and within the context of current Queensland education initiatives. The forums included:

principals / deputy principals / teachers
pastoral care / behaviour management staff
curriculum coordinators
parents
other community members.

In 2009 Queensland schools received a second round of funding to deliver professional learning for teachers, particularly around the application of Values Education resources.
