The Office for Early Childhood Education and Care is committed to providing Queensland children with the flying start to life they deserve.
Established on 1 January 2009, the Office is responsible for providing high quality, integrated early childhood education and care services for all Queensland children from birth to 12 years.
The establishment of the Office recognises the intrinsic link that exists between early education and child care and bringing together responsibility for both under the one agency for the first time.
The immediate priority for the Office is to ensure all Queensland children can access a high quality kindergarten program in the year before they start Prep by 2014. The Office is consulting with and working in partnership with stakeholders to develop and implement Queensland's plan to achieve universal access to kindergarten.
The Office is leading Queensland's input into the national early childhood reform agenda that is being progressed through the Council of Australian Governments (COAG), including initiatives such as early childhood development, Indigenous and health reforms.
The Office for Early Childhood Education and Care is also responsible for regulating and licensing early childhood education and care services in Queensland (formerly the responsibility of the Department of Communities). Further information regarding programs, policies, monitoring and licensing is available at Department of Communities website
