School Grant

Purpose

The School Grant provides assistance to state schools in meeting recurrent operating costs.

Expenditure Guidelines

This grant can generally be used in a way that best meets the local educational needs of students. Key expenses to be met from these funds include:

curriculum equipment, material and consumables for all curriculum areas;
annual requisites, including photocopy paper, cleaning materials, toilet paper, chalk, etc;
office requisites, including general stationery requirements;
general groundscare requirements, including mower fuel, small tools, janitor-groundsperson requirements;
general running costs including carpet cleaning, pest control and equipment safety checks;
equipment maintenance and replacement (every school should have a planned equipment replacement program);
professional development for staff;
resource centre maintenance;
senior schooling support programs;
cooperative programs; and
sanitary services.

Form of Assistance

A formula-generated cash grant calculated for each semester using semester data and paid to host schools.

Special Schools

with no students aged 15 and over

[Base 1 + (professional staff rate x number of professional staff)] x School Grant Index.

with students aged 15 and over

[(Base 2 + (professional staff rate x number of professional staff) + (per student rate x no of students aged 15 and over)] x School Grant Index.

Special Education Program with HOSE

(Per Spec teacher rate x number of teachers) x School Grant Index.

Special Education Program without HOSE

(Per spec teacher rate x number of teachers) x School Grant Index.

NOTES

For the purposes of calculating the special school grant Professional Staff are defined as those staff allocated to a special school through the Students with Disabilities or School Support Resourcing Staffing Models. The following are considered Professional Staff: principals, deputies, teachers, nurses and education program officers.
The above allocations are cumulative. Any establishment with multiple categories receives the allocation for each approved category at the host site. eg a P-12 school would receive an allocation for years P-7 and an allocation for years 8-12.
