Department of Education, Training and the Arts provides assistance to parents/caregivers of secondary school age students attending state and approved non-state schools to contribute towards the cost of textbooks and learning resources. Registered home education students in years 8 - 12 are also eligible.
Parents/caregivers receive the allowance through participation in the school's textbook hire scheme, as a discount to their fees and voluntary contributions, or directly from the school. This option is made available to each parent annually.

Textbook and Resource Allowance entitlements are mostly calculated on full time equivalent (FTE) enrolment census data.

Allowance Rates for 2008

Part time students are entitled to the relevant FTE fraction of the allowance e.g. 0.2 FTE Yr 8 = $19.
Students transferring after the end of February from any Queensland secondary school (state or non-state) will have a pro rata refund of TRA paid directly from their original school to the new school. Parents will receive refunds for students who are not transferring to another school in Queensland.
In order to achieve consistency among schools, pro rata refunds and payments should be made on the basis of a 40 week school year.
There are no application forms to be completed by parents of students attending schools.
