Volatile substance misuse

Within this section are two documents developed specifically for schools. Their purpose is to provide practical advice for schools in relation to the issue of Volatile Substance Misuse.

The Guidelines for Schools - Volatile Substance Misuse (new window) 40k Microsoft® Word document provides schools with practical suggestions on how they should approach this topic and what they can do in their school if they believe it is an issue for their students.

The Background Paper for Schools - Volatile Substance Misuse (new window) 34k Microsoft® Word document is intended for teachers to provide them with information about the types of products used, their effects and promising strategies for dealing with this issue. This paper is not intended as information for students.

Teachers are encouraged to read these documents before they begin any activity related to the misuse of volatile substances. This is one area where extreme caution is recommended, as attention to this area in a drug education program or by a guest speaker in a school drug education program may encourage experimentation by students.
