The links below identify some of the many Australian websites which provide research, resources and training programs for health professionals and educators on topics including physical activity, nutrition, cancer, heart disease, and mental health.

General health and wellbeing

Lighten Up to a Healthy Lifestyle Program External Link
Developed by Queensland Health, this program is a group - based healthy lifestyle support program delivered by trained facilitators. It teaches participants to be more active, develop healthy eating habits and cope with stress.

A Healthier You External Link
This is a Queensland Government website that includes general information about improving your personal health and wellbeing. Topics include food and nutrition, a health environment and physical activity.

TravelSmart External Link
The TravelSmart program encourages and promotes the use of environmentally-friendly means of transport such as walking, cycling and public transport. Resources that include information for employers and individuals are provided on their website.

Sunsafety External Link
Skin cancer caused by unsafe sun exposure is a real threat to Queenslanders. The Queensland Government has therefore identified reducing unsafe exposure to the sun as one if its targets for 2020. Sunsafety Qld provides a comprehensive guide and resource bank to assist all Queenslanders take responsibility for their skin and protect themselves from the sun.

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) of Australia provides guidelines for health professionals, databases of health and medical research and research funding.

Cancer Council Queensland External Link
Provides information and advice about cancer detection, treatment and prevention.

Health Information Directory External Link
The Health Information Directory provides access to online health and well-being information. The fact sheets and other resources on this site are constantly expanded and regularly reviewed.

HealthInsite External Link
Provides a wide range of up-to-date and quality assessed information on important health topics such as diabetes, cancer, mental health and asthma.

National Heart Foundation Australia External Link
Provides valuable information and resources about the types and causes of heart disease and stroke. The NHF Queensland branch can provide volunteer speakers, brochures and advice and access to physical activity programs such as walking clubs.

Quit smoking

Quit Now External Link
This website is part of the Australian Government's continuing efforts to reduce the level of tobacco use among Australians and is aimed directly at smokers, both youth and adults. It's designed to provide information and further resources on successfully quitting.

The National Depression Initiative - provides valuable ideas, contacts and resources to support local anxiety and depression related initiatives.

Mental Health First Aid External Link
This website provides information about Mental Health First Aid: the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.
