Investigations into Health Concerns at Morayfield State High School

In response to concerns raised by a staff member at Morayfield State High School in September 2008, the Department of Education, Training and the Arts is currently working closely with school staff to ascertain the extent of health concerns at the site. While this is being undertaken the department has already implemented the following actions:

Provided Queensland Health fact sheets to concerned staff members at Morayfield State High School
Conducted a staff information session at Morayfield State High School to discuss staff concerns. The forum was attended by specialist health staff from Queensland Health. Staff members did not identify any concerns with the school site
Consulted with the Environmental Protection Agency and been advised that Morayfield State High School is not on the Contaminated Land Register or the Environmental Management Register
Sent a letter to all parents and caregivers with students at Morayfield State High School advising them of the current health concerns at the school.

The department will continue working with Queensland Health to ensure appropriate information is provided to staff at Morayfield State High School and consider the requirements for further assessments of the site if necessary.
