Investigations into Health Concerns at Warrigal Road State School

In September 2008, a concern was raised by a parent from the Warrigal Road State School community regarding the incidence of childhood cancer (lymphoid leukaemia) at the school.

Queensland Health has advised that the data does not suggest that there has been an increase in the rate of lymphoid leukaemia in the Warrigal Road State School area.

The Department of Education, Training and the Arts implemented the following protocols to address the concerns raised:

• Worked closely with Queensland Health to address health concerns at the site
• Consulted with the Environmental Protection Agency and confirmed that Warrigal Road State School is not on the Contaminated Land Register or the Environmental Management Register
• Provided a letter to parents and caregivers with students at Warrigal Road State School to advise them of the advice from Queensland Health.
