Application Process

The Application for Teacher Employment process consists of three elements:

Application Form

To apply to become a teacher with the Department of Education, Training and the Arts, qualified teachers must submit an Application for Teacher Employment and certified copies of the required documentary evidence to the Teacher Applicant Centre (TAC).

The Guide to completing the Application for Teacher Employment ("the Guide") provides information about employment as a teacher with Department of Education, Training and the Arts, the application process and guidance on how to complete the Application for Teacher Employment.

All applicants must be eligible for teacher registration with the Queensland College of Teachers External Link.

Only one application is required, regardless of preferred employment types and locations. Application details are made available to each regional / district office.

Receipt of your application is acknowledged in writing and remains active for 12 months. This acknowledgment does not imply any assurance of appointment.

Folio Submission

Each applicant is required to prepare and submit a Folio.

The Guide provides information about each of the elements required in the folio submission, including:

The Folio must be submitted prior to the Interview.

Interview

Each applicant is required to attend an interview conducted by a panel of teachers.

Information about the Interview process is provided in the Guide.

Instrumental Music and Languages other than English (LOTE) applicants must also undertake a proficiency interview. Information about these interviews is also provided in the Guide.

Legal disclosure

Under Section 9A of the Criminal Law (Rehabilitation of Offenders) Act 1986, all applicants for school-based positions are required to disclose information regarding criminal convictions for:

Disclosure is required whether the offences were committed in or outside of Queensland.

A conviction does not necessarily preclude you from employment. However, failure to disclose relevant information may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or dismissal.
