The Department of Education and Training (DET) offers Graduate Employment Scholarships to support high-achieving pre-service teachers with financial incentives and permanent employment after graduation.
The Graduate Employment (Rural, Remote and Regional) Scholarship Program provides added incentives to pre-service teachers interested in working outside the south-east Queensland area.
Scholarships are awarded in high-demand, specialist curriculum areas to undergraduate pre-service teachers who are completing their final year of a four (4) year teacher education program at a Queensland higher education institution. Currently, the identified curriculum areas of demand are:
The department works closely with universities across Queensland to promote the scholarship program and encourages applications from high-achieving pre-service teachers in the identified curriculum areas.
Graduate Employment Scholarship recipients are eligible for a host of attractive benefits including financial incentives, permanent employment with DET upon completion of studies (subject to specified conditions), assistance in securing professional experience placements, and access to resources, networks and programs.
Scholarship applicants must meet the specified eligibility criteria and be willing to commit to the scholarship conditions, including a two-year minimum service commitment as a teacher in a Queensland state school upon completion of their degree.
