Employment Opportunities for Language Teachers

Due to the Queensland Government's commitment to quality language studies in schools the department currently has a high demand for Language Teachers particularly in rural, remote and regional schools across Queensland.

The Department of Education and Training is committed to providing high-quality education services to students in Queensland state schools and to ensuring the availability of quality teachers to deliver them - now and in the future.

Language Teachers in state schools:

• focus students on developing language proficiency and promote intercultural understanding introduce students to other languages as a means of accessing other people, ideas and ways of thinking
• inspire interest in and respect for other cultures
• utilise a range of communication technologies
• develop in students an array of transferable skills that support other areas of the curriculum.

Language Studies Other than English in state schools

Language studies are an important part of the Queensland state school curriculum and are offered in most primary and secondary school settings.

The following languages are currently taught in state schools, across Queensland:

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Languages
• Chinese
• French
• German
• Indonesian
• Italian
• Japanese
• Korean
• Spanish

Rewards and Benefits

Teachers in Queensland state schools have access to a broad range of generous employment conditions and benefits in addition to earning very competitive salaries 196k.

Teachers in rural, remote and regional areas may benefit from greater opportunities for valuable experience and advancement. These locations often feature supportive school communities and developmental teaching and learning opportunities.

If you are appointed to a schools in an identified remote areas, you may be eligible for incentives under the Remote Area Incentive Scheme (RAIS).

Eligibility

To be eligible to be employed as a Language teacher, applicants are required to undertake a LOTE proficiency assessment 188k in addition to the application for teacher employment process.
