Secondary school students considering teaching as a profession have the opportunity to commence their teaching degree while still at school, through programs currently offered by Queensland Higher Education Institutions.
Many of these programs offer secondary students the opportunity to study teacher education subjects while completing Year 11 and/or Year 12, which can reduce the number of subjects they need to complete when they commence university. Some also offer direct entry to university.
The programs currently available include:
QUTeach@Redcliffe
This unique program provides students from Redcliffe, Clontarf Beach, Sandgate, North Lakes and Deception Bay State High Schools with the opportunity to study four university subjects during Year 11 and 12 and gain entry to the Queensland University of Technology

START QUT ![]()
This program offers students who want to become teachers to study university subjects in the same classes as current Queensland University of Technology
students and improve their preparation for university.
Griffith University Early Start to Tertiary Study (GUESTS) ![]()
The GUESTS program provides an opportunity to sample university life by studying a single subject at Griffith University
while simultaneously undertaking semester one or two of Year 12.
Head Start ![]()
After successfully completing a Head Start course and Year 12, students are eligible for a guaranteed a place in a related University of Southern Queensland
degree. The program is offered through the Toowoomba, Springfield and Fraser Coast campuses.
SUN (Start Uni Now) ![]()
The SUN program provides students with the opportunity to combine studies towards CQUniversity TM s
Bachelor of Learning Management with their regular high school work.
Headstart ![]()
The Headstart program provides Year 11 and 12 students with the opportunity to study courses at the University of Sunshine Coast
while still completing high school.
LAUNCH ![]()
Successful completion of one course through the LAUNCH program during your senior year at high school and you may be eligible for automatic admission to Christian Heritage College
when you graduate from year 12.
