Recognition of prior teaching or industry experience

Prior teaching/industry experience may be recognised for salary Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet classification purposes for temporary or permanent employment.

An application for recognition of prior teaching/industry experience must be submitted within one (1) month of appointment as a teacher.

All applications for an adjustment to salary Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet classification levels must be accompanied by a statement of service from the previous relevant employer/s and must then be received by the Teacher Classification Team within three (3) months of commencement of employment.

Statements of service must be certified and submitted to the Teacher Classification Team who will assess the statements for relevance, appropriateness and impact on teacher classification and salary.

Documentary evidence

A statement of service is a document that satisfies the following criteria:

If employment is/was part-time, hours worked per week must be provided.

NB: Casual service on an irregular basis is not recognised by this department for classification purposes. To recognise casual service, 6+ consecutive days in one location are required, or a pattern of working consecutive weeks on the same days at the one location needs to be established.

Applications for recognition of prior teaching or industry experience and statements of service should be forwarded to: Teacher Classification Team, Payroll Services Unit, Department of Education and Training, Private Mail Bag 15158, City East Qld 4002.
