Heidi Long

Primary teacher

Heidi currently teaches Year 1 and 2 students at East Brisbane State School.

Heidi believes that the most rewarding aspect of being a teacher is seeing the sparkle and excitement in children's eyes at the 'eureka' moment that occurs when they discover new knowledge that she has led them toward.

We asked our teachers to reflect on their teaching career and complete the following statements.

I chose a teaching career because...
Ever since I can remember I have wanted to teach and although that may sound like a cliche for me teaching has always been my goal. It is a rewarding and exciting career.

I believe that I have made a difference to my students by...
Supporting, guiding and nurturing them to become confident and independent learners.

As a state school teacher I have had the opportunity to...
Work with a diverse range of people, both adults and children.

The three personal qualities that I think are important for teachers are...
Patience, passion and perseverance.

A memorable moment from my teaching career was...
Feeling truly appreciated by the many parents, who when leaving my previous school, came to say thank you for supporting, teaching and caring about their children.

My career aspirations are...
To provide all students that come into my care, with the opportunity to reach their full potential. To inspire, encourage and believe in them.

I would encourage people to consider a teaching career if...
They are prepared to work in an environment where no two days are the same. Where each and every day is a challenge and where five out of seven days a week someone will bring a smile to your face.
