Support and incentives

Being a therapist with the department provides a unique opportunity to pursue a fulfilling and rewarding career while also meeting personal and lifestyle needs.

Therapy opportunities are available throughout Queensland, including rural, remote or regional communities.

Incentives for all therapists

Therapists working in Queensland state schools have desirable and flexible employment conditions and access to a broad range of support and benefits, including:

Support for occupational therapists and physiotherapists

Professional support is provided by senior regionally based professional supervisors for occupational therapists and physiotherapists employed by the department.

The Priorities in Practice manual is a resource issued to each departmental occupational therapist and physiotherapist. The approved processes outlined in the manual are used by departmental therapists and:

Regionally based loan services provide specialised equipment to assist students with learning difficulties and/or disability to participate in curriculum activities enhancing student learning outcomes. Contact your regional office for more information.

The occupational therapy and physiotherapy discussion list provides a forum for OTs and PTs to share ideas and resources and seek support and advice via email from colleagues across the state.

Library Services provides access to a range of online and physical resources.

Support for speech-language pathologists

Professional support is provided in each region by professional supervisors for speech-language pathologists employed by the department.

A departmental SLP eLearn Blackboard community is available on the Learning Place for departmental speech-language pathologists. This is a password protected secure site that enables sharing of practice information. Contact your regional office for information on how to join this community.

Speech-language pathologists may be able to borrow specialised equipment including Augmentative and Alternative Communication items for use with students with disability through a regional loans service. Contact your regional office for more information.

The Speech-Language Pathologists Discussion List provides a forum for speech-language pathologists to share ideas and resources and seek support and advice from other speech-language pathologists across the state via email.

Library Services provides access to a range of online and physical resources.
