Information Standard 42 - Information Privacy (IS42) and the supporting guidelines regulate the responsible management of personal information, including its collection, storage, use and disclosure by the Queensland Department of Education. The Department of Education is committed to complying with the requirements of IS42 and supporting guidelines to protect from misuse the personal information entrusted to us.
The decision to introduce a privacy regime into the Queensland public sector is consistent with similar moves by most of the other states of Australia and on a broader level is consistent with a general worldwide trend. It includes such things as informing individuals when information is collected about them, what the information will be used for, whom it may be disclosed to and informing the community about the types of information collected and stored by agencies.
The Department collects, stores, uses and discloses personal information to ensure that we can provide a quality education service. Publishing a privacy plan is an element of the first stage in the Department's development and implementation of a consistent, transparent privacy regime. The Privacy Plan provides detailed information about the types of information collected and held in various schools and business units and how those collections relate to the core business of the area collecting the personal information.
