Kindergartens play an important role in a child's development and the Education and Industrial Relations Minister Cameron Dick announced on Monday 21 March, 166 community kindergartens will be retro-fitted with solar-power units to make services more sustainable over time, both financially and environmentally.
Services throughout Queensland will receive solar-power units to help create sustainable learning and play environments for our children.
As well as reducing the amount of greenhouse gases produced by each kindergarten, these solar panels will help reduce the service's annual electricity bills by an estimated $400.
This is good news for parents and kindergarten operators, in light of recent events and at a time when budgets are a challenge to balance.
A second competitive funding round will enable existing not-for-profit community kindergartens to install solar panels.
All kindergartens that are under the Queensland Kindergarten Funding Scheme who were not successful or did not apply in Round 1 of the Solar Kindergarten Installation Program and do not have solar panels, will be eligible to apply to have solar panels installed in Round 2 Solar Kindergarten Installation Program.
The Round 2 expression of interest application process will open in February 2012 and close on 30 March 2012. Eligible kindergartens will be emailed details of the application process in February 2012. If you require any additional information please contact a Solar Kindergarten representative by phone 3234 1436 or email.
