Information for contractors

Workplace Health and Safety

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has developed information to help builders, tradespeople, contractors and schools to understand their workplace health and safety requirements and obligations as part of BER. Specific information can be found on the Department of Justice and Attorney General's website External Link.

Opportunities for contractors

The Australian Government's $42 billion Nation Building-Economic Stimulus Plan (the Plan) creates opportunities for construction businesses in Queensland.

Under the Building the Education Revolution program component Queensland state and non-state schools have been allocated around $2 billion for building projects over the next three years.

The Department of Education and Training (DET) is coordinating the delivery of the Building the Education Revolution program to Queensland state schools, assisted by the Department of Public Works (DPW).

DPW is now seeking contractors, consultants and suppliers to deliver Building the Education projects in state schools across Queensland.

All school projects will be small to medium in value, with a large proportion having a construction cost of less than $1 million. However projects may be bundled to streamline delivery within and across regions.

Please note: state schools should not be contacted directly.

Small businesses have the opportunity to become part of the delivery of the Plan either as a direct contractor, a supplier of goods and services or as a sub-contractor. There are several ways of becoming involved and securing work and jobs for your business.

Projects over $250 000

A contractor who wishes to be eligible to bid for construction projects over $250 000 or consultants involved in commissions over $30,000 must be prequalified with the Department of Public Works.

To prequalify go to:

www.works.qld.gov.au/bpu/pqc External Link

or phone the Registrar on 1800 072 621

or email: pqcregistrar@publicworks.qld.gov.au

Once prequalified, contractors will need to constantly monitor Tenders External Link to bid for current tenders.

Projects under $250 000

To be a supplier of goods or deliver projects under $250 000, contractors need to register at www.qbuild.qld.gov.au External Link.

Subcontractors and suppliers of goods and services

Subcontractors and suppliers of goods and services can view the contractors who have been awarded contracts. View Tenders External Link and awarded contracts.

Subcontractors and suppliers of goods and services will need to contact the awarded contractors directly.
