Prime Minister congratulates Brassall State School on the opening of their BER hall

The school community at Brassall State School was elated to have Prime Minister Julia Gillard officially open their multi-million-dollar Building the Education Revolution (BER) funded multi purpose hall, after it was originally inundated from January's floods.

School principal Peter Doyle said staff, parents and community volunteer workers had worked tirelessly to restore the $3 million hall back to its former glory, endeavouring to have the facility up and running for the start of Term 2.

He said Brassall State School were honoured to have the Prime Minister officially open their BER funded hall on July 22, as well acknowledging the fighting spirit of the school community.

"It was a fantastic experience for the school community," said Mr Doyle.

"It was a wonderful day and a great opening ceremony.

"The Prime Minister met many of the students and presented the student of the month award. We also had the oldest and youngest student at the school, cut the cake."

The provision of these facilities under BER will complement the Queensland Government's delivery of a 21st Century education throughout the state.

The new multipurpose hall helps support the Government's increased emphasis on physical activity in the school curriculum and the growth of our creative and performing arts program.

Mr Doyle said the hall had been a great asset to the school.

"Our hall is a great asset to our wonderful school," he said.
"We use the hall for school assemblies concerts and sporting activities."

The hall also features its very own self contained tuck shop and kitchen.

The Queensland Government, through the Department of Education and Training, is managing the implementation of BER in Queensland state schools on behalf of the Australian Government.

The Australian Government provided $3million in funding to Brassall State School under Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) for the multi purpose hall. An additional $200,000 was provided under the National School Pride (NSP) element for minor refurbishments at the school.
