Cannon Hill State School's Building the Education Revolution opening became a history making event, as past and present students came together to celebrate the school's multi million dollar facilities.
Former student Colin Jones, who first attended the school in 1949 said he was very impressed by the school's new infrastructure.
He said it was nice to see the school community of young and old come together for the special event.
"I did enjoy the function and thought the student, family and public attendance was very good," he said.
The Australian Government provided $2 million in funding to Cannon Hill State School under the Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) for the resource centre and refurbished multi purpose hall. An additional $125,000 was provided under the National School Pride (NSP) element for minor refurbishments at the school.
Member for Bulimba, Di Farmer said the feedback from the principal and school community to their resource centre and multi purpose hall had been overwhelmingly positive.
She said facilities such as the school's new resource centre, provides an environment for students to work collaboratively on innovative teaching and learning enterprises, while the multi purpose hall supports the state governments emphasis on the importance of physical activity and the expansion of the performing arts in the state school curriculum.
School principal Christine Ling said the school was ecstatic about their new BER funded facilities.
She said the youngest member of the school community officially opened the facility along side Mr Jones.
"Everyone was very impressed by the BER opening," she said.
"Students made a salad and pizza in our new kitchen garden.
"Students grow their own vegetables in the garden and prepare meals in the kitchen."
The school's new resource centre and refurbished multi purpose hall were funded under the Australian Government's $16.2 billion Building the Education Revolution program which was providing contemporary educational facilities to eligible Australian schools as part of the national economic stimulus package.
