Marshall Road State School prides itself on its musically talented students, utilising their new Building the Education Revolution (BER) funded, multi purpose hall to showcase their abilities to the local community.
The Australian Government provided $3 million in funding to Marshall Road State School under the Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) for the multi purpose hall and resource centre. An additional $200,000 was provided under the National School pride (NSP) element for a classroom, interactive whiteboards and playground shade covers.
Member for Greenslopes Cameron Dick, represented the Education and Training Minister Geoff Wilson at their Official BER opening on 16 November.
Mr Dick, a former student of the school, said he was impressed by the new multi purpose hall, as it supported the Government's increased emphasis on physical activity in the school curriculum and the growth of their creative and performing arts program.
School Principal Ian Blacklock said previously the school lacked a suitable venue to showcase the various talents of students, despite performing arts featuring strongly in the school's curriculum.
He said the centre, which overlooks the school's oval, will be able to now accommodate around 350 people and provide a much needed venue for school events; such as assemblies, graduation ceremonies and of course, musical performances.
The multi-million-dollar facility features a 70 square metre stage capable of accommodating the whole school band for full musical productions, as well as an audio-visual system, motorised screen and digital projector.
The Queensland Government is delivering BER to Queensland state schools on behalf of the Australian Government.
