Senator Claire Moore and Minister for Education and Industrial Relations Cameron Dick celebrated the official opening ceremony of Mount Gravatt East State School’s new Building the Education Revolution (BER) facilities, unveiling the school’s new $2 million Primary Schools of the 21st Century (P21) funded hall refurbishment and resource centre on July 26.

Federal Foreign Minister and Member for Griffith Kevin Rudd sent a video message to the school, congratulating them on their multi-million-dollar facilities.

School Principal Janine Leach said the school community were delighted to have so many dignitaries attend their special opening ceremony, highlighting the value of the facilities to support teaching and learning at the school.

“Senator Claire Moore highlighted the pride we have in our new facilities as well as unveiling the plaque with member for Bonner Ross Vasta to open our newly refurbished BER school hall and resource centre,” she said.

Minister Dick reviewed the facilities and was delighted with the outcomes, thanking the school community for putting together such a special event.

Facilities, such as the school’s refurbished hall supports the state government’s emphasis on the importance of physical activity and the expansion of the performing arts in the state school curriculum.

These facilities also provide a venue for schools to showcase the achievements of its students and can serve as a usefully community asset.

The provision of contemporary resource centres provide an environment for students to work collaboratively on innovative teaching and learning enterprises.

The resource centre has become a great asset to the school, with additional teaching spaces and 21st century technology, challenging the traditional ways of finding information.

The BER program is providing additional school facilities, while supporting and creating local jobs.
